POSITION TITLE:          Special Education Teacher

 

QUALIFICATIONS:        Valid Oklahoma Certification for Area; Must meet NCLB Requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher with a Minimum  of                                          Mild/Moderate Certification 

 

REPORTS TO:              Principal and/or Special Services Administrator

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Clear Criminal History; Temporary Contract for New Hire 

                            

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.

  2. Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity levels and interests of students.

  3. Guides a classroom learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and -in harmony with those goals- establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  4. Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting objectives.
  5. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  6. Monitors the disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  7. Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
  8. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  9. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teachers assistants and volunteers to achieve the best educational results and supervises their job performance.
  10. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  11. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as requested.
  12. Enforces all rules governing the conduct of students as prescribed by the principal or superintendent.
  13. Strives to maintain hygienic conditions and practices in the classroom.
  14. Reports to the principal any serious accident or illness - affecting students in his or her charge.
  15. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  16. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the academic day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  17. Assist the school district to provide a safe, nurturing environment for students.
  18. Conducts meetings, completes paperwork, implement's IEP's as required by local, state, and federal regulations, policies, or procedures.
  19. Provide physical and educational services as needed for each student.
  20. Completes any assignment required by the Special Services Administrator or principal in a timely manner.

 

 OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
