POSITION TITLE:         Substitute Teacher

 

FLSA:                            Exempt Professional

 

QUALIFICATIONS:     Able to pass background check

 

REPORTS TO:             Asst. Superintendent Human Resources

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Daily contracted services for the current school year.

                            

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Dress neatly and appropriately.

  2. Reports to the principal upon arrival 15 minutes before the official school opening.

  3. Reviews with the principal or their designee, all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching. day.

  4. Maintains established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.

  5. Teaches the lessons outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.

  6. Consults with the building principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the teacher's notes or lesson plans.

  7. Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods.

  8. Writes a note about work completed at the end of each teaching day, and leaves it for the regular classroom teacher.

  9. Reports to the building principal at the conclusion of the teaching day, and verifies whether or not services will be required on the next teaching day.
  10. Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
  11. Strives to maintain hygienic conditions and practices in the classroom.

  12. Reports to the principal any serious accident or illness - affecting students in his or her charge.

  13. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.

  14. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the academic day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

  15. Assists the school district to provide a safe, nurturing environment for students.
  16. Assists the district to comply with HR1 (NCLB) requirements as specified by local, state, and federal mandates.

  17. Performs such other duties as are assigned by the principal.
